TEACHING
A MESSAGE TO PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
Sylvie Zakarian is a classically trained musician, with all-around capabilities on all percussion instruments. Throughout her teaching career she has taught at various levels of playing in various genres including orchestral, solo, contemporary, and modern. She works both individually in private settings, as well as in ensembles and instrumental labs.
Sylvie’s deep classical background, coupled with her rigorous pedagogy, is a winning recipe that has turned out dozens of students with strong, well-rounded fundamentals in all major categories of percussion instruments. Several of her high school students have been awarded Massachusetts District and/or All-State appointments in all 4 percussion categories -- snare drum, drum set, mallets, and timpani.
Many others have participated in local youth orchestras including the New England Conservatory Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra.
